About US
Serving Our Community Since 1949
In December of 1949, Byers Fire Protection District #9 was founded to serve the community of Byers, Colorado. Originally serving the community as solely a fire agency, Byers Fire has since grown to serve both the medical and fire needs of the community.
The district currently utilizes 40 active members, a combination of paid and volunteer staff. Currently, Byers Fire consists of 4 full-time paid staff, 4 part-time staff and a number of both in-district and out-of-district volunteers. The members of Byers Fire bring a host of experiences and certifications, including Fire, Hazardous Materials, EMT (Emergency Medical Technician) and ALS (Advanced Life Support) certifications.
Involved in the community in all aspects, Byers Fire is here not only for medical and fire emergencies but for general education, community events including CPR and Fire Prevention Week, Burn Permits and Car seat checks. We work closely with our partnering agencies across the state, to bring the best emergency services to the area that we can.
Byers Fire is a key member in the Fire/EMS community along the I-70 corridor, responding and assisting on all large calls with our partner agencies Strasburg, Bennett-Watkins, Deer Trail, Buckley and Sable Altura. We currently have a mutual aid agreement with our neighbor, Strasburg Fire Protection District #8, and respond to all fire and EMS calls with their personnel.
